Summary

Drawing upon Archimedes, Lorini asserted that all machines of the fortress could be reduced to the balance and thus to the lever. From his home in Padua, Galileo taught a private course on fortifications from about 1592 to 1609. Both Lorini and Galileo were shaped by a Florentine circule of military engineers.
