From Aristotle to Galileo, physicists studied the path of an arrow in flight as a premier example of projectile motion. Paul E. Klopsteg, a noted 20th-century physicist and meteorologist, combined a recreational interest in archery with the curiosity of a scientific researcher. Klopsteg’s voluminous papers are archived at the American Institute of Physics (biography of Klopsteg). His printed archery collection is held by the OU History of Science Collections.
