Summary

This book demonstrated the advantage of exercise training and physical therapy in promoting health. Pugh invented exercise apparatus to strengthen the muscles. The 30 plates, engraved by artist Thomas Kirk, aimed to depict the living body in active motion: “that appearance of life, action, extension and relaxation, is preserved in these figures.”
